The other day I must have driven by 10 different gyms, and I have to admit that I do love going to the gym. All the equipment at my disposal is sooo wonderful. However, being a mom doesn’t always work in my favor when it comes to leaving and going to the gym. I mean let’s be honest here…
Who wants to deal with waking littles up at the crack of dawn, pack them into the car and bring them to the gym where they may stay for the entire workout…but maybe they won’t. Sometimes it’s nice to let them sleep in or get it done when they are napping. Trust me, I know how it goes 😉
So, in order to have a no-excuse attitude when it comes to getting in shape, here is my list of…
Best equipment for at home workouts
Yoga mat: Ever try doing yoga on carpet or hardwood floor without one? It’s not too pleasant. A mat will help keep you in place instead of sliding all over the place.
Weights: When I started I bought a 40lb weight set from Walmart. Nothing special, but they got the job done. After a while, I did upgrade to Bowflex ones which are the greatest things ever! If price is an issue, go on Craigslist, Offerup, and Letgo where you can find cheap used ones. The weights don’t care if they are new if you don’t.
Resistance bands: If you don’t want to buy weights just yet, then these are the way to go. They will work you like nothing else. Plus, you can take them anywhere.
Jump rope: If you want to get some serious cardio in, then get a jump rope. Not only is this a cheap piece of equipment, but it’s SUPER effective. Just don’t do it on ice. You know it had to be said…
Stability Ball: Ok, this thing is a core killer. Just try it and tell me what you think. It can be used in the absence of a bench. Word to the wise, don’t let your kids and dogs play with it. They will pop it…Luckily, a ball is pretty cheap from Walmart.
I know this is bare bones, but it really doesn’t take much to get it done at home. I did P90X when I first started working out, with nothing but resistance bands and got some nice results. Which is great on the amount of space you need and the amount you need to spend.
